Why keyholding
So you have a property in southern Costa Blanca. Lucky you 🙂 Having a second home abroad is the dream for many and a luxury for some. But like anything valuable, it needs to be looked after. Have you thought about the following? – What happens if there's a water leak? – What happens if there's a break-in? – What happens if you arrive one day and have forgotten your keys? Hopefully none of these things will ever happen, but somewhere they happen every day. Here are a few reasons to use a keyholder who has a spare key to your holiday home.
1. The rain in Spain
Too much water doesn't seem to be a problem for most of the year in Spain, but when it rains, it really rains. We've walked past properties swimming in water and wondered whether the owners were nearby. Then there's naturally also a risk of water leaks, which don't necessarily wait until you're around to deal with them. In both cases, it can be a real advantage to have someone check on your house when you're not there.
2. Renovations
Whether you've bought a new build or a property with a few years behind it, some kind of renovation or change might be needed. Maybe something needs painting, or there's something else you'd like done before you arrive for your holiday. You probably don't want the renovation happening while you're here on holiday. That's where a keyholder who can let the tradesperson in and out comes in handy.
3. Visitors
Most people are happy to let friends and family borrow the apartment/house they have here in Spain. Having someone on the ground with a spare key on hand makes things a lot easier.
4. Unwanted intruders
We don't want to scare you, and break-ins are neither more nor less common in Spain than in many other parts of the world. That said, a property that stands empty a lot does carry a higher risk of unwanted visits. That's when it's handy to have someone on the ground, so you don't have to jump on a plane to sort everything out. Regular property checks are, as you can imagine, very smart — it keeps people moving through the house regularly. Having someone rinse down the terrace and wipe the outdoor surfaces now and then also signals that the house isn't standing empty.
5. No! I can't find my keys!
There really are cases of us humans losing important things like keys, passports, flight tickets or driving licenses. You might not be one of them, but it doesn't have to be your fault either. Handbags get stolen, keys can fall out of a pocket or end up behind a dresser. You can't find them and the flight leaves soon. Instead of calling a locksmith, it'll feel like a dream to have someone with a spare key nearby. It'll be the best decision you've ever made.
